Back in August we posted about a band being the new Led Zepplin, see our original post. News surfaced yesterday that made my heart beat a little faster.
Audiences just can’t get enough of Greta Van Fleet, who won Best New Artist at the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards last night while supporting their first EP. Lucky for fans everywhere, you won’t have to wait long for the guys to unleash new music as their From the Fires, eight-song double EP is now due on Nov. 10.
From The Fires will feature on one disc four brand new Greta Van Fleet recordings as well as the four critically-acclaimed tracks from the band’s break-out EP Black Smoke Rising, including “Highway Tune,” the band’s debut single that spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Radio charts. These four new tracks were recorded last month at Rust Belt Studios in Detroit and produced by the same duo that produced Black Smoke Risingearlier this year, Al Sutton and Marlon Young.
According to the band’s vocalist Josh Kiszka, compiling the four Black Smoke Rising tracks with the four new recordings made for an ideal grouping. “All eight of these songs share a theme of basic humanity,” he says. Fans are already getting a taste of “Safari Song” after the meteoric rise of “Highway Tune.”
From The Fires will be available both digitally and as a physical CD. For those fans that have already purchased the Black Smoke Rising tracks via iTunes, they are invited to complete their From The Fires double EP at a special price. Log onto iTunes for those details.
The cover art (above) was conceived by Josh who says, “When we were all kids, our extended families and friends spent part of every summer together at a place called Yankee Springs. We were out in the middle of the woods, and every night, we’d sit around a campfire, play music and tell stories. I always loved that as it reminded me of ancient times when people would gather around the fires with the tribes’ elders telling fables of wisdom and courage, passing down human history. That concept is where the cover art and title come from.”
Greta Van Fleet are currently on tour in the U.S. having sold out every one of its headline shows through to the end of the year. Remaining dates can be found here.

No one has been carrying the torch for swaggering, blues-driven rock ‘n’ roll these days like Michigan upstarts Greta Van Fleet. And it’s one they sure don’t seem too eager to pass off anytime soon.
The band will release a new double EP, From the Fires, on Nov. 10 that will feature one disc of four new tracks and another four-song disc that reassembles their studio debut, the Black Smoke Rising EP, which includes their breakthrough radio hit “Highway Tune.” That song topped Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock and Active Rock chart earlier this year.
Greta Van Fleet formed in 2012 and were quick to rouse local interest following the release of their 2014 album debut, the concert recording Greta Van Fleet: Live in Detroit, which offered a thundering exhibition of raw, blues-based hard rock. When “Highway Tune” was issued as a single — the band’s first — this year, Billboard reported that “Greta Van Fleet is the first act to top Mainstream Rock Songs in a first visit this year” and that “Highway Tune” was fastest that a band’s first entry onto the chart climbed to No. 1 without the star power of a noteworthy featured guest.
Greta Van Fleet integrated a similar thematic thread between the four new tracks on From the Fires and the familiar ones originally found on Black Smoke Rising. “All eight of these songs share a theme of basic humanity,” frontman Josh Kiszka said in a press release announcing the new EP.
The groups first EP, Black Smoke Rising was released back in July.
